people, people everywhere
watching one of my favourite japanese drama serials now. so glad that mediacorp brought the series back. apparently, this is the final series. sigh. it definitely adds some entertainment to my sunday nights. before this, i could not bring myself to switch on tv becauses there was nothing else to watch. and there was that not-very-interesting zhang fei show (no offence, josh!).

anyway, topic at church service this morning: problems. the 4 facts of problems, the 3 purposes of problems and the 3 ways to react to problems.
what i learnt today:
- problems are inevitable, unpredictable, of many kinds and purposeful.
- 3Rs to handle problems (Rejoice, Request = pray, Relax and let God work)
the most significant thing which struck me was something i shared with the group yesterday. if we treated God like a genie in a bottle... oops! i meant lamp!, and got whatever we wanted the way we want it, then that wouldn't make Him God. He would just be a genie. and we would learn nothing. we will all simply become spoilt brats which would result in a disaster. people will be fighting over the same thing, then it would become a challenge of "who's the first to rub the lamp".
such a timely message. we go through problems everyday. wherever we are, whatever we do, whoever we meet with, somehow, somewhere, problems are bound to arise.
have you ever thought to yourself what the worst problems to handle are? to me, it is the problems involving people. God gave us minds to think and personalities so distinctly unique that no two persons are exactly the same. that is also exactly the same reason why conflicts arise, hence problems are created (once again.. and again). life would be a breeze if there weren't so many people around to come in conflict with us. but then again, someone else would probably be saying the same things about us. so it's not about "everyone else". it's the "me" we have to focus on. (the only time i encourage the "me" thinking.)
the way to deal with problems is definitely not to dwell in them. focusing our entire energy on the problem will not solve it. (reminds me on yesterday's dinner when we were talking about staring at the porridge till it becomes rice. same logic.) we just have to look inside ourselves and see what exactly is going on. be honest with ourselves and evaluate the situation. look at what we have said and what we have done.
attributing blame on others is always naturally the first instinct. we ought to steer away from that thought and figure out what we can do to help the situation instead. as uncle roy said today, "we cannot control the situations or problems that come our way, but what we can control is our response towards them. that deals with our ATTITUDE."
it is going to be a struggle to solve the people-problems we face. and i am still digging my way towards that direction... let's do it together and it will definitely make the digging easier for everyone.
