the proximity of blogging

i'm just taking a little time off my busy morning for a breather. realised that i have not been blogging often. i am trying to figure out why. last week was a hectic week for me and this week, i have been home pretty late and tired.

but what makes this fever of blogging rise so high? i am wondering, does blogging bring people closer or pull people apart? on one hand, we can read about each others' thoughts, what they've been up to, and how they are feeling. we learn more about each other in a shorter time, because it requires more time to meet up friends and catch up, either individually or in small groups. but on the other hand, because we can find out all about our friends (and their friends) online, this diminishes the need for personal contact. i find myself in situations where i am reading about my friends' friends' lives, yet i would not recognise them even if they walked right past me on the streets.

is this the world we want to create? a world where we selectively release information to those whom we know (and sometimes to those we don't) and eventually, we don't see the need for the personal touch anymore. let us stop and think. we were made for fellowship and community living. fellowship. what is it all about? it is the comradeship and companionship of people. how can we truly share our hearts and minds with each other, if we don't even come fact-to-face (and in some instances, we don't even know the person's face)?

even as i don't oppose to the idea of blogging, let us not forsake the importance of meeting up and sharing our lives in a more personal note. after all, although a picture speaks a thousand words, a picture can't share the exact feelings and memories you have of that occasion, event or place.
