in darkness

singapore's greatest news last night was definitely the blackout that hit a huge part of the country. i was not even a geographical area. paya lebar, hougang, sengkang, punggol, woodlands, bukit batok, thomson, amk, bishan, toa payoh... wow! i am sure everyone was concerned what was going on and what could happen.

just as we were leaving church at around 10.15pm, i mentioned to jon, "hey! the houses opposite are all dark. maybe there was a blackout." indeed the area opposite the church was completely dark (with the exception of just a few houses along the road). as we were driving out of the car park, even the electricity in the block of apartments in the compound was off. at the guardhouse too! thank God the two blocks the church was occupying were as per normal, or else, we would definitely have been startled during our prayer.

driving along the main road, jon and i found all the houses along the way in darkness. the street lamps were gone. the traffic lights were black. it was a driver's nightmare. especially when it came to crossroads, cars were all in the "move a little, stop a little" mode. terribly dangerous. jon told me to call those who were leaving the church to inform them. "network busy" was the only message i got on my phone. never had this experience ever since new year's day! caught these photos on our way home... first two pics are completely black coz i didn't use the flash. couldn't because i didn't want to blind jon when he's driving. the third pic was taken when we stopped at the non-existent traffic light to wait for all the cars to decide who should move first. thank God everyone is safe and it was just some silly gas disruption from indonesia. nothing to get us running into our bomb shelters...
