movies galore
this week was movies galore. jon and i caught a movie almost everyday (oops! correction, not almost!). monday was mean girls at lido, tuesday was a whole ten yards at lido (although we meant to catch super size me and show jon what happens with eating mac everyday). today was amelie at starlight cinema.
mean girls
i can't say this show was worth all our $13. but part of it. it was entertaining in a sense with all the jokes and humour injections, but there were parts when there is only one word to describe it: dumb. however, it reflects quite accurately school life and makes us realise that despite which part of the world you reside in, school life is something that doesn't differ much. the little crushes, the girl fights, back stabbing talk, hate mails, scheming actions.... the list goes on. i am sure everyone knows what i am talking about.
jon highlighted something after the show. we agree that the morals in the show is a real no-no, but it does attract the minds of youngsters to behave like that in the show. it was so realistic that teens might just unconsciously start behaving like that. people will scheme to grab the heart of the they (think they) love... people will start doing irrational things when they are in fits of anger... people will start thinking that being popular gets them the attention they are desperately seeking... sigh.
the whole ten yards
the starting of the show was a little slow.... i don't remember watching the previous one, so i don't really get the beginning of the story. but after 5 minutes, the plot of set in place and i was giggling away at some of the jokes. the old man in the show is absolutely hilarious. his weird accent, his expressions and his lines is a wicked combination!
during the first half of the show, jon and i thought it was one of those sadistic comedies, where people laugh at the characters being blown up and stuff. but as the show goes on, we realise that the plot is rather simple. it's about how this mafia lord (the old man) has kidnapped this hit-woman to lure out this hit-man (bruce willis). it was more of the lines used that were funny. brainless show. it was definitely for entertainment than engaging.
amelie
this was the real joke of the week! when we arrived at dhoby ghaut around 6, we saw dark clouds looming over orchard. so i casually mentioned that we were safe. when we got out of plaza singapura around 7, we saw the dark clouds being blown in our direction. (the top floors of oub building at raffles place was almost completely covered.) i looked at jon and we decided we will just continue our journey up the "mountain" (fort canning).
just as we found our spot to lay our mat, we sat there looking at the screen showing some advertisements, we started to feel droplets. droplets got larger and out came the umbrella. rain got heavier just as the show started and the water was flowing down our mat, wetting our jeans (we were sitting on a slight slope). so we grabbed our stuff and headed into fort canning park center and saw loads of people already hiding there. we thought we met find a good spot on the balcony on the second floor and there were loads of people too. so we found a nice spot where were could sit and peek in between the gaps of the parapet. thank goodness we had free tickets. i pity those who spent $10 per ticket to watch the show.
watched about 20 minutes of the show and some inconsiderate people started lighting their cigs around us and stuff puffing. jon was already nursing a slight fever and bad cough earlier in the day. i was sneezing non-stop and was so sure a bad flu was headed my way. couldn't they have more sense than to light up in a congested balcony? so what if it was an open balcony! there was so many people around and all these people bothered was to satisfy their cravings.
so we took our stuff and headed down to the ground floor again, where we sat and napped for about 15-20 minutes since the rain was still quite heavy. the rain started to dwindle and we left.
