starlight cinema

a sweet nice thursday evening started out of goodwill from a friend. sharon happened to send her megane to renault for servicing and came back with two tickets to starlight cinema, asia's largest outdoor cinema. so looking at the list of shows (and those who cannot watch because the tickets are not valid on fridays and saturdays), jon and i decided to use our first ticket at "Love Actually". yes, again. actually, we have watched most of the shows on the list. so more than half of the shows would be "again!" for us.

anyway, we went to plaza sing for dinner. found out it was the launch of the singapore food festival. that explains the crowds, hawker stalls, and the walking crab and lobster! yeah! some seafood restaurant (can't remember the name but i know it is a famous place) had two guys dressed as a crab and a lobster, walking around distributing pamphlets.

since we finished dinner early and we didn't know what to do after walking all around plaza sing, we decided to go for the show. wanted to give the extra ticket away during youth service, but decided against it. so we trotted up fort canning. didn't know how to get there through park mall. attempted to follow two girls carrying a mat, and guess where they were heading for? the ladies! haha. mission aborted. decided to ask the security guard and went up through the carpark. continued following people who looked like they were heading the same way as us. as we were walking, we felt a little uncomfortable, looking at people carrying snacks and PICNIC MATS! uh oh... doesn't seem very pleasant when we were walking up empty-handed. but nevertheless, we continue our trek. reached the entrance of the place and i was trying to stay positive till the usher at the entrance said the grass was a little damp. so jon and i backtracked a little and sat on the bench while we discussed whether we should go in or not.

concluded that we didn't want to miss this new experience and that we could sit on the brick steps if the grass was really damp. went in and was shocked at the amount of people in there! i was wondering why people would pay $10 to watch a movie in the open when they can pay $7 to watch it in an aircon cinema. (jon's logic: perhaps a lot of people in there were like us - came because we got free tickets!) headed straight for the wall's ice cream stall because it was a little warm. jon grabbed his lemonade and we both went to search for a nice spot to sit. found this little spot, tested the ground, okie to sit, and we plopped ourselves there.

in the beginning, it was a little uncomfortable. you know flying insects (that are attracted to light) flew around, grass tickling... but after some time, we just got used to it. and the crowds were still streaming in... hard to imagine the amount of people who know about starlight cinema and actually came to watch. as the show ran, i finally realised why people actually like to watch movies in the open. as the night falls, the stars were actually shining. and it was such a wonderful sight to watch the show and once in a while, give a quick glance to the stars shining above. pretty!

the two girls in front of us (as seen in the photo above) brought their cushions to lie on... while the couple next to us brought wine! boy, do they really know how to enjoy life! and people just sat or laid in positions they were most comfortable in. and for once, it was okie to talk during a show because no one actually cares!

jon had his babe.... keira knightley...

while i had my hunk (rodrigo santoro)! * mich goes awwwwww......... *

they don't give enough credit to him although he is remembered by a lot of girls who have watched that show. anyway, i couldn't find a better photo of him in the show. but i will not give up trying.

jon and i simply love the songs in the movies... he's got his favourite instrumental pieces, and i adore the jazz song in it. gonna get the soundtrack man!
